The Kingsland Walk Senior Living Executive Director Shares How She Got Her Start in Senior Living

Category: Senior Living

Author: Mindy Kemp, Executive Director

Senior living has certainly changed over the past decade. An industry that once provided very little hands-on care has blossomed into a wonderful option for older adults. It now provides varying levels of assistance with residents’ activities of daily living, while arranging many opportunities for socialization and community. I am fortunate to work for Arrow Senior Living leading the Kingsland Walk Senior Living team. I would like to share a little about my journey to becoming a senior living leader.

I took care of my grandmother when she was on hospice. It was the little things I was able to do for her, like put lotion on her hands or read her a book, that sparked my passion for senior living. It’s the special moments, a hug from a resident, advocating for residents that may not be able to communicate their needs, and knowing random acts of kindness really do drive change in the world, that keep me in senior living.

Arrow Senior Living is my employer because of their core values and the support I receive. These great values and diversity make for a great place to work.

The baby boomer generation is very large and will start to age into senior living in the coming months and years. I see senior living continuing to thrive as older adults continue to look for support in their daily living. If someone is considering a career in senior living management, I would tell them to make sure your heart is in it. Skills can be taught, but your heart must be genuine.

Arrow Senior Living and I invite you to reach out and learn more about a career in senior living. Working in this industry can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Whether you’re interested in caregiving, management, or another aspect of senior living, there are a wide variety of roles available that allow you to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults and their families.
